Miguel Maldos Gonzales

HBPA Board President

Miguel is a multi generational American born Chicano artist and worker rights advocate from the Yanaguan River area, now known as San Antonio, TX. Miguel was influenced by his father’s activism for civil service rights and photographing the Chicano Movement. He pursued photography through University of Texas San Antonio after enlisting in the U.S Air Force. He later worked as a Bioenvironmental Technician for the National Guard and then recruited by Labor & Industries in Spokane WA. He continues his creative expression of photography and Joined the HBPA family in 2017

Maria Escobedo

Board Treasurer for HBPA

Maria Escobedo moved to Spokane in 2014. She is first generation Mexican American, her parents are from Michoacán, Mexico. Maria is currently the Treasurer for HBPA and has held that role since 2017. Maria has volunteered as a CASA; Court Appointed Special Advocate for Spokane County, Sexual Assault and Crime Victim Advocate for Lutheran Community Services, and a Licensed Substance Abuse Professional in Training for Chemical Dependency Studies

Jen Contreras 

HBPA Office Administrator

“Hi! I’m Jennifer Guadalupe Contreras but everyone knows me as Jen. My position at HBPA is office administrator, running the food bank on Thursdays and answering all your texts emails promptly. I spend most of my time energy enjoying the outdoors with friends or playing music. Happy to be part of this Org and wonderful team”

Larry Valadez 

Vice President of the HBPA Foundation

I was born in Yakima and have been a resident of Spokane since 1979.  At present, I am a retired Federal Probation Officer and run a retirement business known as Azteca Investigations and Interpreting.  I really enjoy being in HBPA and serving the Spokane community

Francisco Gutierrez 

HBPA Membership Coordinator

A first-generation Mexican-American with parents from Jalisco and Chihuahua, Mexico. Francisco first moved to Spokane in 2013, shortly after serving in the military for 5 years. He graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and now serves on the board of HBPA and works in downtown Spokane as a Financial Advisor. In his free time he likes paddleboarding, tequila tasting , and spending time with his wife Stacey and baby boy Royal

Fernanda Mazcot

HBPA Executive Director

Fernanda Mazcot was born in Michoacán, Mexico and moved to central WA at the age of three with her parents and two sisters. She was raised in Wenatchee, WA and Phoenix, AZ. She moved back to Washington state in 2011, to Spokane with her son Nathan. Her background is in social work, bringing over 15 years of experience in social services, community organizing and community advocacy

Isabel Mazcot de Torres

HBPA Vice President of Business Relations

Isabel was born in Michoacán, Mexico and moved to Central WA at the age of seven with her parents and two sisters. She is married and has three children. Her background is in finance, accounting and Human Services. Isabel was raised in Wenatchee, WA and Phoenix, AZ. She moved to Spokane in 2010 and currently serves on the board of HBPA. “Proud to be part of the HBPA family, together we are stronger!”
